Creative Writing Activities Overview

When it comes to Creative Writing Activities, there are a ton of different exercises you can do in order to get your creative juices flowing and have a fun time with writing. Many of these activities work well in both a solitary setting, or a classroom environment. As such, they are great for you to use in Creative Writing Courses.

One of my favorite creative writing activities is the six word memoir. While we detail it further in a full article, here's the general idea. Write a memoir or summary of your life using six words. It is a fun challenge as you find yourself trying to make the most out of every word, and thinking hard to create a clever sentence that looks at life in a unique way.

Another popular set of creative writing activities are free writes. These are very common and are the process of simply letting your pen or pencil write any words that come to mind. Doing it for just fifteen minutes a day, creative writing exercises like this can keep your mind fresh and thinking of new creative writing ideas. Combining free writes with creative writing prompts and you'll be bound to find a great new story idea in no time at all.

Lastly, one of my favorite creative writing activities to do with friends is tandem writing. A classic example of this went around the Internet in which a girl and boy wrote a story together that combined aliens and a romance novel. It was a clever read and shows what can be so great about tandem writing. When doing creative writing activities like this, you end up with great results that can go in any direction possible. Once again, we detail this process further in a subarticle so be sure to check it out for more details!
