Tandem Writing
Tandem writing is a unique form of creative writing that takes the normally solitary activity and turns it into a collaborative effort. The challenge? To write a story with another person in which you alternate sections. A section can be as big as a chapter or as short as a sentence with most collaborations working in paragraph segments.
Overall, tandem writing can be a lot of fun as it forces the writers to cede control of their work. You no longer know where your story will end up next and so, you write with no idea where things will go. Overall, tandem writing is a fun form of creative writing that might turn people on to the process that otherwise might be wary of trying to write.
A classic example of tandem writing has been passed around for over a decade on the web. The story, about two classmates who were forced to write a story together and successfully combined science fiction and romance in a hate fest at one another, has been passed from person to person and helped popularize the art form.
Overall, tandem writing is a fun creative writing activity that I highly recommend everyone try at least once.
